Baby Shower Gift Basket
For my sister-in-law's baby shower, my husband and I worked together to make a gift basket for her and her new baby. See below for all the details!
Items Needed
- Wooden box, we got ours at Hobby Lobby
- Paint for box
- Wooden Letters
- Paint for letters
- Wooden Decor
- Wood Glue
- Paint brushes
- Painter's Tape
- Baby stuff to fill the basket with
Instructions
1. Using the painter's tape, seal off any areas that you do not want to get paint on. The only thing I needed to protect was the chalkboard on my box.
2. Paint the box. I did two coats and let dry overnight.
3. While the box dries, paint the letters. Since we do not know the gender, we just used his/her last name for the box. I did one side one night, let dry, and did the other side the following night and let dry.
4. Once the box is nice and dry, start deciding where you want the wooden decor and letters to go.
5. Once decided, apply wood glue on the back of the decor and letters. I did one side a night so that it could completely dry. I applied it to the box and wiped away any excess glue. Then once everything was applied to the side I was working on, I used box to sit on top of it to help seal the glue. Tip: do not over apply the glue like I did. It made a big mess! I learned that from the wooden animals and did better with the letters.
6. Once all sides are complete, you are ready to fill it up with goodies!
And now it's ready to give to the mom-to-be!
Keep in mind all the drying times so that you have plenty of days to get it finished. See below for a shortened idea on the time it will take:
- 1 day - 1 coat of paint on the box, paint one side of letters
- 1 day - 2nd coat of paint on the box, paint other side of letters
- 1 day - apply one side of decor
- 1 day - apply one side of decor
- 1 day - apply one side of decor
- 1 day - fill the basket
- 6 days are needed for 2 coats of paint and items added to 3 sides of box.
