Outdoor Decor

Outdoor Decor

Unfortunately, I waited until it was blazing hot outside to really start working on my outdoor décor.  But everything seems to be holding up pretty good so far, so hopefully this heat won't kill all my pretty pink plants that I am about to show you.  I am not a green thumb by any means, but with it being warmer outside, we tend to grill more and have company over.  I just couldn't let our surrounding porch areas continue with the winter lifelessness that they had.  So below are some fairly inexpensive spruces that I did to liven up our outdoor areas!

Front Porch

So I am starting with what people see when they first arrive, our front porch.  We rarely spend much time here since we do not have a large front porch that you can put any chairs on, but since this is the first thing people see when they get to your house, you want it to be cute!

First off, we added this adorable Disney rock in our flower beds.  We added this back in June actually, but I figured I should mention it!  It was part of the Flower and Garden Festival merchandise, although they may carry it year-round.  We wanted something for our flower beds from the event, and since there is no color on this, we thought it would be perfect.  Having something with color would mean it would fade over time, and we didn't want that!

Next is our yard flag.  I change this up throughout the year, but I found this cute Welcome Flag at Lowe's on sale for $3!  It is perfect for summertime with it's patriotic and BBQ theme!

My mother-in-law gave us this cute windmill décor that we placed near our welcome rock.  It is very patriotic, but I thought it could at least get some great use until Labor Day.  We love it so much, we are going to find another one like it for after Labor Day that might would have a nice fall theme!

Lastly are our flowers.  The pots and flowers were both purchased at Lowe's.  The pots are supposed to be "self watering" or something like that.  I still water them every other day in this current heat.  I thought the blue would fit nicely with our other décor.  The plants were actually sold as hanging plants, but I opted to re-pot them in the nicer blue pots.  This is our first year putting flowers on our front porch, so if they do continue to live here, we will probably invest in nicer pots next year.  Our porch just gets very little sun, so we have this fear plants wont live long!

Backyard and Back Porch

Our backyard is still a work in progress.  We plan to put in a full flower bed lining our back fence, and we plan to replace the arbor with a bistro set.  But for now, it works as it is.  Our plants also struggle in this Alabama heat...

This year we did hang up bird houses in each tree.  We actually found these birdhouses in Collierville, TN at the square.  I think they are adorable.

The back porch had a simple but effective makeover.  I removed some of the old chairs and a welcome mat that was no longer being used.

Then from Lowe's I bought two large blue pots and two more hanging plants.  I re-potted the hanging plates into the new pots and put them on each corner.  They have grown tremendously since I first planted them mid-June.
