Prime Now
On our Disney trip back in March, we decided to try Prime Now. It is different than Amazon Prime, so be sure you are aware of this. It requires a different app and works much differently. Disney also handles it differently. If you order through Amazon Prime, you will get charged a service charge from Disney for handling your delivery. But if you use Prime Now (at least as of now), you will not be charged a fee from Disney. This is a great option for grocery delivery that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, doesn’t require any fees, and Disney approves it! So if you are a Prime member, I highly recommend looking into this and reading about my experience below.
So first off, we didn’t need much. We were only at Disney for 3 nights. BUT I did want to have things in the room for Melody, and there were a few things that just made sense to have since it was so much cheaper through grocery delivery. We also were trying to minimize our luggage since bags were fairly expensive via Silver Airways (More to come on that in a future post!). I looked at multiple grocery delivery services since we would not have a car this trip. I found that Prime Now had the best prices, the best ratings from fellow Disney goers, and it made the most sense since we have a Prime membership.
Unfortunately you cannot book this in advance of your trip. You have to book this the day of. However, you can add things to your cart well before your trip. Just be sure and double check your cart that they items are not out of stock or changed price dramatically. I did this beforehand, but ended up messing up and not getting milk. I have no clue how that happened, but it did. Fortunately milk isn’t too expensive from the gift shop.
I placed our order literally while we were boarding the plane to go to Orlando. It was around 10 am. They had a delivery time of 12-2 pm available, and I took it. They usually can deliver within 2 hours of your order. Of course you will need an address to put in. I found ours in the My Disney Experience App here.
I was sure to put delivery instruction of “leave with bell services at Port Orleans French Quarter”. I also added a $5 recommended tip. But you can see there is not a delivery fee.
So here is where I got nervous. They ask for your phone number to call in case something goes wrong or they have a question. I didn’t think this through, and I was on a flight the entire time without phone service. I was a nervous wreck the whole time until we landed! [Luckily there were not any issues!]
So you can see everything I ordered below.
After placing your order, it does give you a map to show you where your ordered is being prepared. Since I was flying I am not sure how this worked. It could be much like Papa John’s where they show the driver driving to your destination so that you know when they arrive. I was able to log in after we landed and see that our order had already been delivered through the app though (also see below).
So after we got to the hotel and we were ready to go to our room, I went to bell services and asked about our delivery. Since it had water in it, they offered to deliver it to our room for us. About the time we made it to our room, bell services was there too. I was also sure to tip him.
We didn’t have anything cold, so everything was in one of these bags. From what I have read though, if you have cold items, they are properly stored at bell services for you.
Overall I would do this again in a heartbeat. I wished we did this on our trip back in February, but we brought most of everything we needed with us. The pries were really reasonable, and delivery was free and fast. I highly recommend.
