Princess Dress-Up Storage

Princess Dress-Up Storage

One of the things we added to our playroom when we did a makeover to it last month was a dress-up storage solution. Melody just recently started getting into dressing up, but that is even still not super often. But she does have a few dresses from Halloween, last year’s dance recital, and a few gifts. So I wanted a better place to store them than on the back of a door. She also has lots of accessories like jewelry, wands, tutus, etc. So we needed room for that too. My best friend, Emily, recently came up with storage for her daughters dress up, and I decided to copy it! All you need a 9 cube storage system, a tension rod, and storage bins to fit the cubes if you want. Follow along below for the changes I made to the instructions.

So to start, I have used a purple crayon to show you what you do NOT want to install. Follow all the steps in the instruction manual unless noted below.

Melody had fun helping me!

The first change you are going to want to make is on Step 4. First, you will want to insert SHORT dowels, not the long dowels. If you use long dowels, they will poke through, and you won't be able to change up the divider. After you install the short dowels, you will then use part B INSTEAD of part C. This will keep you from having holes that you don’t need and add extra security. You will also attach 2 screws between the dowels like you did in the very first step. You are basically replicating what you did at the beginning with part C.

Now to Step 6. You are going to use part C INSTEAD of part B. You won’t be using screws on the side now, just the top as indicated in the instructions.

We did not install the back panels, but you can install some if you want on the side.

Now you add the tension rod. You can see the one we used below.

We temporarily used baskets we already had until the baskets we ordered came in. We ordered every thing from Target, but it all came in at different times.

And now it’s complete with the bins and the painted walls! We left the last cube open for dress-up shoes when we finally get some of those!
