Initial Burlap Door Hanger
So I made this door hanger many, many moons ago, ha. But it is super easy and was a gift for a fellow coworker. She actually hung it inside the office, so there are many uses for this cute burlap door hanger!
I used a ruler and fabric pencil to initially draw the letter. I did an H so it was easy. Then I cut the letter out. To avoid cutting and measuring twice, I pinned two sides together and cut both sides at the same time.
Now I ironed both pieces of fabric to account for any wrinkles in the burlap.
I opted to pain red, black, and white polka dots. You can paint anything you want on it. My only recommendation is to put something under the burlap you are ok ruining because the paint easily bleeds through. I also only did this to one H. The other H will be on the back half and won’t typically be seen. If you think it will be seen on both sides you are welcome to paint both. Let dry.
Once dry, I pinned both sides together with the correct sides facing out using sewing pins.
Now hot glue the edges. The hot glue will bleed through so do sections at a time and using another object like a ruler to press it down. It WILL burn your finger, ha. It will also get on the surface you are using so be careful. As you are going and finishing sections, start adding the “filling”. I used plastic bags to do this. You can follow along below with how I added as I went.
The last thing I did was trim the edges to make it “cleaner”. You can leave the rougher look if you like.
I placed it on the door where it was going to judge the length of wire I needed to hang it. I cut the wire, attached it through the hanger and twisted it to secure it.
Next I made a ribbon to add to it. You can leave it as is if you want. I can’t really explain well on how to make said ribbon, so follow along with my pictures below!
To attach the ribbon to the hanger, I cut another piece of wire and ran it behind the ribbon. Then I attached it using said wire.
All done!
