Daddy Diaper Bag

Daddy Diaper Bag

My family and I thought it would be a neat idea to have a Daddy Baby Shower for my cousin’s husband on a family beach trip.  Some of us were going to be unable to attend my cousin’s baby shower, so we decided we could give her our gifts then.  I really wanted to do something more than just a cake for Jon.  So I decided to make him a diaper bag.  I didn’t want to give an actual bag because I wasn’t sure if he’d carry it, and my mom and I bought my cousin a really nice diaper bag.  I had the idea to do a toolbox and provide him with all the “tools” he would need.  It was really easy to make.  Here are the materials I purchased and how I assembled:

Materials I purchased

  • Toolbox – I purchased one with compartments on top and a pull out section inside
  • Duct Tape – Because every dad could use duct tape when they can’t get the diaper on
  • Clothes Pin – When I diaper is stinky
  • Surgical Masks – When a clothes pin just won’t suffice
  • Ear Plugs – Babies can cry pretty loud
  • Onesies – When the baby ruins an outfit and daddy needs to change them quickly
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Baby Powder
  • Baby Lotion
  • Butt Paste
  • Rattle
  • Some safety care basics package
  • Thin Ribbon – used to tie around diapers
  • Thick Ribbon – to use as “wrapping” for the toolbox
  • Cutout Letters (or construction paper)
  • Tape
  • Scissors

Instructions

So the instructions are pretty basic.  Basically fill the toolbox with all the items you purchased.  I rolled the diapers up and tied with the thin ribbon to consolidate space.  How you pack the toolbox is completely up to you.  I have pictures below that show you how I packed mine.  I couldn’t fit all the diapers in the toolbox, so I bought a cute bag and gave them the rest of the diapers that way.  I wanted to come up with a cuter way to give them the diapers, but I didn’t have enough left over to do anything much with.  Plus we would be driving about 6 hours to the beach, and I was afraid it would fall apart (at least that would be my luck!).  Once you have packed everything in the toolbox, I recommend decorating it with letters.  At Wal-Mart I found poster letters.  They were pre-cut and were similar to post-its.  They had a small sticky portion, and I just used tape to attach it to the toolbox.  They are fairly big, but it was easier for me than cutting them out individually.  The toolbox said “JON DIAPER BAG”.  See below for pictures of the letters.  Lastly, I tied some of the thick ribbon around the handle just to add a little something to it.  Both he and my cousin thought it was adorable and it was a hit with everyone!
