This was my very first diaper cake, and it was surprisingly easy to make. My sister-in-law's baby shower was storybook themed, so I carried that over into the decor I used for the cake.
Items Needed
- 14 inch cake platter
- 61 Diapers
- Paper Towel Roll
- Rubberbands
- Curling Ribbon
- Scissors
- Glue Dots
- Hot Glue Gun
- Decorative Ribbon for Each Layer
- Decor
- Topper
- Wooden Stick (optional)
- Clothes Pin (optional)
Instructions
Mark the center of the cake platter
Place hot glue at the center and attach the paper towel roll; Let set
Roll the diapers and secure with rubberbands; make sure you leave the rubberbands near the top of the diaper
Starting with the bottom layer, line up 6 diapers around the paper towel roll
Secure with curling ribbon
Remove the rubberbands
Repeat the steps again using 11 diapers
Repeat once more for the bottom layer using 19 diapers
Repeat the steps starting with the second layer using 6 diapers
Repeat again on the second layer using 13 diapers
Once again, repeat the steps for the top layer using 6 diapers
Now start decorating and deciding where things should go; below was my first stab at the decor
Now add the ribbon...first measure how much ribbon is needed
Place glue dots on the ribbon
Attach the ribbon together around the layers
Continue
Play around with the decorations
Now the optional part...securing the book on top of the cake
Place hot glue on the clothes pin
Attach the wooden stick to the clothes pin
Attach the clothes pin to the book
Drop the stick in the paper towel roll
Tip: At the shower, the glue dots were not cooperating, so I secured the ribbon with a safety pin and tried to hide it when possible
