Our Favorite Binge Watching TV Shows

Our Favorite Binge Watching TV Shows

We love to binge watch TV, especially during the summer when there is so little on live.  Every now and then we will even binge watch during the rest of the year if we hear about a really good show that we want to start.  We have a subscription to Netflix.  It is only $7.99 a month, but we definitely get our use out of it.  We use Netflix for most of our binge watching.  We have also used the free trial of Hulu Plus whenever we wanted to catch up on a current season of a show, but that has only happened once.  Below are some of our favorite shows that we have binged watched.

1. Once Upon a Time - As a big Disney fan, I am surprised that I did not start this one sooner.  I really had never heard of it until Brad mentioned it.  It sounded like a neat show: a bunch of fairytale characters who are somehow stuck in our world.  It's quite entertaining, and it's really interesting to see how the writers incorporate the stories that you know of your beloved fairytale characters but with a twist in modern day.  Characters that you've always hated, you grow to love through the magic of this show.  If you love Disney or fairytales, give this one a try.  There are currently four seasons, and the fifth season premieres in the fall of 2015.

2. The Walking Dead - When I first heard about The Walking Dead, I wanted nothing to do with it. I had no desire to watch a zombie-filled tv show.  Well my best friend, Emily, and her husband watched it, and one summer, Brad and I finally decided to catch up on it.  We now watch it every Sunday (when it is on) with Emily and Justin.  We switch up weeks on who hosts, and we cook dinner and dessert.  It's a lot of fun.  Over the last few seasons, I have realized this show is a much better binge watch instead of a week-to-week watch.  The episodes have just been really slow and do not always feature the entire cast.  However, when you binge watch, you don't even notice.  The Walking Dead is more than just a gore-filled show.  It's interesting to see how these people attempt to survive in a world that is so hard to live in.  You also learn that no character is safe on the show.  They are not afraid to kill anyone off.  Lastly, it gets all of us talking about the what-ifs if something like that were to happen!  There are currently five seasons, and the sixth season premiers in October 2015.

3. Breaking Bad - Breaking Bad was the first show we ever binged watched.  I must tell you, the first season was quite difficult to sit through.  It just wasn't that great.  Seasons two through four were really good.  Then season five was just ok.  I felt like they just forced season five.  The perfect ending to me was season four for sure.  But I don't want to give anything away!  Unlike the other shows I mention, this one is already over.  So that is nice if you don't want to have to deal with the watching in real time once you are caught up.  The idea of the show isn't appealing to a lot of people, but it is more than a show about meth.  It is about the characters and how they transform over the show.  Jesse is definitely my favorite of all the characters!

4. House of Cards - I was really hesitant to mention this show.  The first season was amazing.  The second was was good.  The most recent, third, season was hard to get through.  If you have Netflix, I think it is worth giving it a shot.  The show follows a Congressman and his efforts to get what he wants in the political world.  Since it is a Netflix show, they release all the episodes of a season at once.  It is usually in the February timeframe.  There are currently three seasons with the fourth season to come in 2016.

5. Arrow - We started watching Arrow by chance.  I was showing my parents how to operate their Apple TV, and I stumbled across this show.  Brad had been wanting to watch it for awhile, but I never gave in.  Boy am I glad I finally did.  Oliver Queen is gorgeous, and beyond the good looking main character, it is a great superhero show.  It is very Batman-esque.  Some things are really far fetched, and well beyond reality, but that's half the fun.  Arrow just finished its third season.  The fourth season will premier in the fall of 2015.

Honorable Mention

The Flash - The Flash is another really fun superhero show.  There isn't as much to binge watch since there is only one season, but it is worth starting if you are looking for a new show to watch.  It is much more lighthearted than Arrow, but you still get to see the crossovers between the two.  There is so much humor in this show and you don't see as much darkness.  Season two begins in the fall of 2015.
