Recovering Kitchen Chairs

Recovering Kitchen Chairs

A while back, we inherited Brad's great-grandmother's dining room furniture.  We had the furniture refinished, but then we needed to recover the old chairs.  We found some really nice fabric that would go well in our kitchen.  Ultimately we knew that this table would fit better in our kitchen since it was a drop-leaf table.  The fabric also needed to blend in with our living room since the two rooms are so close, and it turns out some of the chairs are scattered throughout the living room.  Below is a tutorial on how we (Brad) recovered our chairs!

1. Measure out the fabric to make sure you have enough to cover the cushion.

2. Center the cushion on the inside of the fabric, then attach with a staple gun on one side.  Be sure that if you have a fabric like ours like has lines on it that it lines up properly.  You don't want it to be slanted when finished!  We opted to leave the original fabric on the cushion.  The new fabric is thick enough that you cannot see through it, and this was much easier.

3. Tightly pull on the opposite end and staple again.

4. Now comes the tricky part.  On the two open ends, you want to fold the fabric and stable it so that it makes a clean edge.  This may take some maneuvering, but it can be done!

5.  Make sure all the fabric is securely stapled and cut any excess fabric off.

6. Reattach to the chair, and you are all done!
