Space and Rocket Center

Space and Rocket Center

Back in August, Brad’s parents came to visit us for the weekend. On Saturday of their visit, we decided to do something that his parents have been wanting to do for a while…visit the Space and Rocket Center. Brad and I both visited as kids, and he actually went to Space Camp, but neither of us have been since living in Huntsville.

As you are walking to the entrance, you have some planet information to guide you.

As soon as you walk in, there is the gift shop. This is nice if you live here and want to just go buy souvenirs because this doesn’t require admission. And it is nice and large. Then we continued walking until we found the ticket counter. Since we had Melody with us, we decided not to do the IMAX movie. She would not have enjoyed it at all. So we received our standard tickets and proceeded into the museum. But first we had to take a picture! You’ll find those later in my post.

After we took pictures, we spent some time in the main building. We visited the gallery, and spent some time viewing the main exhibitions. We also went to the Team Redstone Exhibit. That was really neat since Brad works on the Aresnal.

Below are some of the food options in the main building. We stopped and got some drinks here before heading outside.

When we went outside, we first visited Kids Cosmos Play Area. They had a cute ride that lifted the kids in the air and dropped them somewhat randomly. Melody thought she wanted to do it after watching other kids. She even sat down, but when they were about to the lower the bar, she panicked! So then we played in the playground area around it.

We ate a few snacks then eventually pried Melody away. Then we walked over to the Lunar Crater and took a few pictures and looked around.

Brad and Bob then wanted to ride the Space Shot Simulator. I decided to ride it the first time, but that was it for me. I love rides like this when they are enclosed (aka Tower of Terror), but I don’t like my feet to dangle! They rode it one more time.

Next we went to the Saturn V hall. It is really neat and lots of small exhibits to look at it. It took a lot more time than the main building for us. It also had a small gift shop and food booth.

After all that, Melody was pretty much done and ready for lunch. We decided to get lunch elsewhere, so we headed out. We did stop and decide to buy the picture we took at the beginning. See them below.

I think this is a must do if you are passing though Huntsville or have the opportunity to visit. Hopefully it won’t take us 20 years to visit again!
