Unboxing the Resort MagicBand
I recently wrote a post about unboxing the AP MagicBand, so I found it only fitting to do a post about unboxing the resort MagicBand. These should be the only two cases (as of now) that you receive a MagicBand in the mail free from Disney. They come with a resort reservation since they are your room key, and they also come with your AP. You can obviously order them separately too, or you can buy other colors while at Disney World. Unfortunately if you buy a ticket, you do not receive a MagicBand. We just use bands we already have in those cases.
Disney requires that you customize your MagicBand within 30 days of your resort reservation. It will tell you the day you have to customize it by, and when you click on that, it will give you a countdown too.
You can edit your MagicBands anytime until that day. Even if you click “done” you can always go back. If you do not customize them, they are automatically gray and have the names listed on the reservation as the names on the bands. You will also need to confirm the address you want the bands shipped too.
So once they ship, Disney will send you information about the tracking. I have actually received the bands on the same day Disney notified me, so that isn’t always reliable. However, if you are wanting your trip to be a surprise, the box does not give anything away on the outside. Even the return address is vague.
Once you open the box, all ambiguity goes out the window.
I mean really…the castle is RIGHT there! This is the most obvious different in the AP MagicBand box and the Resort one.
On the left side of the box is information about your MagicBands. This is a similar pamphlet found in the AP box but with more info on all the things you can do with your band.
On the right side are your Magical Extras and Luggage Tags. Now if you did not book a package (resort+tickets, resort+dining, or resort+tickets+dining), you will not have this. I have a resort only trip coming up in March, so I will update this post with the details of what is in that side of the box then!
The luggage tags are usually specific to the color of the MagicBand you pick.
And if you are wondering how to attach the luggage tags to your luggage, read here…
And look here…
The Magical Extras never get used by us. First off, you can play mini-golf before 4 pm, and you get access to the ESPN Wide World of Sports. We received 4 vouchers for each, and they are required for entry to those arenas.
And now instead of the fancy coupons you received many moons ago (a year ago for us), you now get an adorable card with the discounts preloaded I assume. You can find all of the benefits of this card here. Since we have not used this card yet, I cannot tell you much about it. I am assuming it is required. I will try and use it somewhere on our trip just to see how it works. I will update this post then.
Of course the frustrating part about both of these items, you have to keep up with them. I wish they were just attached to the MagicBands Disney just sent you…
Anyhow, let’s look at the MagicBands. Nothing fancier than what you would find in store.
Well unless you like having your name on it!
Of course the name is great when you can’t remember whose MagicBand is whose!
So there you have it! I will try and update this post after our next trip and again after I receive our MagicBands for our trip in March. Stay tuned!
