Disney Churros

Disney Churros

Back in April, not long after the pandemic began, Disney released their infamous churro recipe. We decided to make them at home one afternoon, and they were a hit. They did not look anything like the ones I get at Disney, but they were still delicious. We also had them in a few different ways. Check it out below.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water

  • 8 tablespoons of butter

  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

  • 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, divided

  • 1 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 1/2 cups of vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup of sugar

Instructions

1. Combine water, butter, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat too low.

2. Add flour and stir until a ball is formed. Remove from heat and let rest for 5-7 minutes.

3. Add eggs one at a time and stir until combined. Set aside.

4. Heat oil in a skillet or saucepan over medium-high heat. Spoon dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe 1 inch strips of dough over the saucepan, cut with cooking shears, and drop into hot oil. Repeat until saucepan is full but with plenty of room to fry. (Tip: have someone help you. My piping bag started to melt because it was over the heat too long. Brad had to help me to make the process quicker.)

5. Fry until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel. Repeat with the rest of the dough. We only did half of the dough, and we had way too many.

6. Mix sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon in a bowl. Toss in churro bites until coated.

7. Serve! We had them three ways: as is, with caramel sauce, with ice cream and caramel sauce. My favorite was the ice cream and caramel sauce for sure!
