Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week

Melody’s elementary school celebrated Red Ribbon Week back in October along with most of our state (maybe nation, I don’t know much about how far it extends beyond Alabama). While I love dress up days, I do hate that it landed the week of Halloween when I was already working on our Butterbean Costumes. But we managed to come up with all the outfits for the week after a run to Walmart and Hobby Lobby!

Monday was the kick off day which meant wear red to support Red Ribbon Week. So Melody wore a red Disney shirt. Ironically we have very little red clothing, but pink we do have covered.

Tuesday was “Don’t Get Tied Up in Drugs” so the kids wore neckties, bow ties, hair ties, and tie dye shirts. I went to Walmart to find some tie dye clothing. I found this cheap set in the toddler section, so she wore both tie dye shirt and pants. She loved it!

Wednesday was “Give Drugs the Boot” which meant wear western themed clothes. I already had a white long sleeve shirt and pants. I found the bandana and hat at Hobby Lobby for cheap. She also wore boots she already had.

Thursday was “Saying No to Drugs is No Sweat!” so the kids wore exercise clothes. I didn’t plan to buy anything for this day because I figured leggings and t-shirt would work. But I did find some exercise pants in the girls section of Walmart on clearance. So I got those. They are a bit big, but it is something she will wear again.

Friday was “Throw the Book at Drugs”. So the kids got to dress up as their favorite book character. This was the most difficult costume to do. Melody wanted to be Pigeon from “The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog”. Pigeon (well Mo Willems in general) was a huge them for the kiddos during the first part of the school year. Melody fell in love with Pigeon, and even this book in particular. Finding the blue jacket was the hardest part. It needed to be the perfect colored blue. She already had a blue one from Target, so I ended up buying another blue one from there to use. I then cut white and black felt to make the rest. I did very large stitches to not ruin the jacket for future use. Melody loves it, and we already had a hotdog at my parents house that she took as well.
