Spring Break 2022
We decided to do something different for spring break and stay close and cheap. We have been discussing doing a trip to Tupelo, MS and including a stop at Oxford one of the days during our trip. Well Brad has a lot of hotel points from his traveling, and there happened to be a baseball game the weekend that started Spring Break. So that was our plan!
Well let me start with more plans that we had that got derailed. We originally planned to go to Memphis on that Friday. We would stay Friday and Saturday night. Then go to the baseball game Sunday at 1:30. Well Brad’s trip home was severely delayed. Like we are talking over a week delay. Plus we had a small snow event Friday night. So we skipped the Memphis part. Due to the snow, the game Sunday was also delayed. They planned to do a double header starting at 1, so our game would begin around 4.
We haven’t seen Brad’s family since Christmas, so that was a bummer. But his parents happened to be going to the beach that Sunday, so they met us for lunch in Tupelo.
After lunch, we headed to Oxford. We did a little bit of shopping, then made our way on campus. We had about an hour to kill, so we walked around campus with Melody. While she has been to the Ole Miss campus for football games, we have not really walked her around much of it because it is chaos during football season. It was spring break at Ole Miss too, so it made for an empty Sunday afternoon.
We made it to the baseball game right as it started. Due to it being a double header, there was not much clarity on when we could go in. This was my first Ole Miss baseball game, so I was also not as familiar with the stadium. Thankfully for Melody, the game only lasted 7 innings. We made many trips to the concession stand and bought a few souvenirs too. Melody did seem to enjoy herself until about the 4th inning. But the highlight was after the game she got to run the bases which she really enjoyed. And she met one of the players.
After the game, we ate dinner at Cook Out (do not recommend the one in Oxford), then headed back to Tupelo to check in to our hotel. We stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites using Brad’s points. I did find out they had an indoor pool. I did not see this on their website so I did not bring a swimsuit. Thankfully Melody never noticed. The hotel is fairly new, but not the easiest to get to honestly. But overall we really liked the hotel, and we will probably stay here again for a easy trip.
On Monday we did the tour around Tupelo. While Brad was born in Memphis, he went to high school in Tupelo. So when you ask where he is from, he will likely say Tupelo. We took Melody by his old house, his high school, and the middle school where is mom taught math. We ate a few of our favorite places. Harvey’s, Danver’s, and Abner’s. We also stopped at the mall and let Melody have some fun there.
I wished we could have stayed one more night and visited Oxford again. Most of the stores were closed on Sunday, so I would like to go back and do some shopping without all the football and school crowds. Maybe this summer we can make a weekend trip out of it!
