Summer Music Camp 2023
So last summer we stumbled across a Facebook post where someone was advertising a summer music camp. The children would get to learn a variety of instruments and there would be a showcase at the end of the week. We have always been interested in getting Melody involved in music, so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to experience it without a huge commitment.
Melody did enjoy the camp, and a few months later we did enroll her in piano. So I suppose the purpose of the camp was achieved. But there were a LOT of hiccups throughout the week that didn’t make the camp ideal. One of the big things was the lack of instruments. Pretty much if you did not bring an instrument, you didn’t get to learn or play as much. They would pass around instruments, but the children didn’t get to spend much time with them since there were not enough for all of the kids.
The showcase was cute, but they did not utilize a stage, so it was hard to always see the kids. I personally would not do it again, but it did drive Melody to want to learn more about music and discover her interest in piano. If I did a camp in the future, I would try to find one more specialized, I think.
