Dance Recital 2022
It’s hard to believe Melody just finished her FOURTH dance recital a little over a month ago. I feel like it was just last year we were walking in that 2 year old for her first dance class, and here we are four years later. Even though this is our fourth recital, we have only had one real recital prior to this year. The prior two years were not full recitals due to COVID (I’ll share each of those posts at the bottom). So this is the first year we are back to normal.
I have always struggled with doing Melody’s hair and makeup for pictures, rehearsal, and recital. This year for pictures, I took her to the salon she gets her haircut at, and I had them do her hair and makeup. I loved it! We decided to do it for the recital, but I didn’t want to really pay for it for rehearsal. So I did her hair and makeup for rehearsal. I thought it turned out really cute. But she still wanted to get it done at the salon on Saturday. But overall rehearsal went really well, and we snapped some pictures because we were unsure if we would get the opportunity at the recital.
The morning of recital, we were at the salon around 8 am. Unfortunately her normal stylist was out due to an emergency, so we had to see someone different. She did a great job, but her personality was lacking. But Melody still enjoyed herself.
Recital this year had its changes just like all the years prior. I had hoped it would be more similar to the first year. One change that was really good was the doors opened early. I don’t know that this was intentional, but when Brad arrived well before 9 am (when doors usually open), he was able to walk right in and got a great seat.
Once we arrived, I still had to get Melody dressed. Now another change is that we could not leave the girls backstage for the entirety of the performance like the first year. Instead, they could sit in the audience (with their costumes covered) or backstage with a parent. The parent could drop the child off 5-7 numbers for the performers number. Then you immediately go and pick them up after they perform. I kept Melody backstage until about 10 minutes before showtime. This allowed us to take some snapshots of her with her friends, and let her keep her wiggles out before having to sit for the show.
When it was time, I snuck Melody backstage and snapped a quick picture of her and Lydia before sneaking back into the concert hall.
She did SO good on stage this year!
I immediately went and got Melody while our families and Brad stayed back and watched the finale. Then Melody took some pictures with everyone.
