DIY Backdrop
We had Melody’s 6th birthday party at a local gymnastics/cheer gym. I wasn’t entirely sure how I could really decorate the walls or how much time I would have to decorate them and also look pretty. I had seen a fellow local mom who made a backdrop to help with her decor at the same location. So I decided to make my own myself. I don’t love it, but it works for now. I plan to make it out of thicker PVC pipe in the future. It is just a little bit too floppy for me.
So I bought 1/2” PVC pipe to use. Like I said, I wished I had gotten thicker ones because it was still a bit floppy. If it was a backdrop that you glued together, I think it would be fairly sturdy, but we did not want it glued together. We wanted to be able to easily transport it. So we have it in several pieces.
So here are the dimensions I used:
4 36 inch pieces
4 42 inch pieces
4 12 inch pieces
2 straight connectors
2 right angle connectors
4 T connectors
I bought a ratcheting PVC cutter to cut all of my piping.
Once all cut, I assembled it at home to see how I liked it. The 36 inch pieces were the width. I used the straight connectors to connect them making them approximately 6 foot wide. The 42 inch pieces were connected to make up the height. The height was approximately 7 feet tall. The top pieces were connected using the right angle connector to one of the 6 foot pieces. Then we connected the other 6 foot piece in the middle of the 42 inch pieces using the T connectors. Lastly are the “feet”. We connected two of the 12 inch pieces using the T connector to the 7 foot piece. We do that on both sides. And now it is complete.
I used white ruffle curtains I found on Amazon. I two panels that were 95 inches in length. I put them through the top 6 foot section.
At the party itself, I ended up only using one side of the “feet” of the backdrop. It was propped up between the wall and table. It made a good place and backdrop of the main area of her party.
