How We Spend Valentine's Day

How We Spend Valentine's Day

Ever since Brad and I started dating, we have always celebrated Valentine's Day the same.  We always opt to buy some nice steaks or seafood and cook in instead of dealing with the crowds and chaos of going out.  There are a few things that stand out to me that is so awesome about staying in on Valentine's Day.  One, you get to eat exactly what you want instead of some prix fixe menu, and save money!  Something I have discovered regardless of the holiday is that a lot of the nicer restaurants always offer a prix fixe menu.  This can really be a bummer sometimes.  For instance, one of my favorite restaurants in town is The Melting Pot.  Well for our one year anniversary, that is where I wanted to go.  The big problem: our one year anniversary was on Mother's Day, and The Melting Pot had a prix fixe menu which I was not fond of.  Needless to say, we did not eat there.  You will also be saving a lot of money on that steak if you buy it from the butcher rather than a restaurant.  Two, you don't have to get all dressed up if you don't want to!  The great thing about staying in is that you make the rules.  If you want to wear sweat pants and a t-shirt to dinner, you can!  And a side note, since you won't be going out, you don't have to worry about those pesky jackets when going out in the cold!  Three, you get to spend quality time together cooking, laughing, and eating.  Brad and I love cooking together.  We cook a lot anyways, but a lot of couples do not.  So this is a great opportunity to cook with each other.  You don't have to worry about some waiter interrupting your discussion either.  So it's just an idea, but this year try making your own menu and staying in with your significant other for Valentine's Day.  Here is our menu this year: filet mignon, scallops, baked potato, asparagus, rolls, and chess pie.
