The Hollywood Brown Derby Review

The Hollywood Brown Derby Review

As you may have read in a previous post, Brad and I just returned from Walt Disney World.  We went back to celebrate our two year anniversary.  We decided to try The Hollywood Brown Derby because we had heard good things from friends you had eaten there.  Originally I planned to book this with the Fantasmic package, but when we secured our dates, we decided that our Hollywood Studios day would only be a half day since we spent our first evening there.  We opted to try it at lunch mainly because it was less expensive.  This is also one of those two credit restaurants that we would not normally eat at if we were on the Disney Dining Plan.  See below for my review and pictures.

Overall Review

We arrived a few minutes before noon.  We were handed a pager, and we were seated about 10 minutes later.  We had a fairly decent table and there really wasn't anyone around us.  We were able to just have conversation, look around, and people watch.  Our waiter arrived pretty quickly and took our drink order.  Brad had a coke, and I decided to get iced tea.  I naturally want sweet iced tea, and seeing that we are still in the South, I am surprised that it is not carried.  Instead I was brought sweetener.  This was fine, but I was still a little surprised.  Our waiter brought our drinks and some bread and butter.  The butter was nice and soft unlike other restaurants.  The waiter, Moses, claimed this to be the best bread around.  It was ok, just dinner rolls of course.

We ordered our meals from the lunch menu.  I just wanted a salad, and to save money, Brad found something to try.  I ordered the Cobb Salad without the blue cheese, and Brad ordered the Chicken Sandwich.  The Cobb Salad was as amazing as everyone says.  There was not a single overpowering element to this salad.  Everything really seemed to mesh well with one another.  I am hoping to try and recreate it at home.  The chicken sandwich was pretty decent.  Brad asked that he get french fries instead of the vegetable slaw, and they were ok with that.  The sandwich was really great, but a little spicy.  If you don't like spice, I do not recommend this sandwich.  It was a nice change from all of the heavy meals we had over the few days before.

After we received our food, our waiter became extremely flakey.  It was almost like he did not want to wait on us anymore.  Maybe he felt it would be a low tip table since we didn't order alcohol and we ordered food from the lunch menu, or maybe it was because we both had special requests to our food.  Either way that left a bad taste in my mouth.  While the food was great, the poor wait staff really makes me question whether or not we will return.  We had a huge delay in receiving refills for our drinks and when it came time for the check, our waiter sent another waiter to bring it to us.

Overall, as I stated before, the food was great.  The wait staff not so much.  If this is a restaurant you really want to try, I recommend coming at lunch.  It is much cheaper then.  I also do not recommend eating here on the Disney Dining Plan.  This is a 2 credit restaurant, yet our meal was only $43!  We have eaten at 1 credit restaurants that cost almost triple that!  It is just crazy to me.  I think it should definitely be 1 credit during lunch if nothing else.  I would not go out of my way to eat here.  I really wanted to try the cobb salad, and while it was great, if I want it again, I may just try it at the Food Truck at Downtown Disney.
