Teppan Edo Review

Teppan Edo Review

As you may have read in my previous post, Brad and I just returned from Walt Disney World.  We went back to celebrate our two year anniversary.  Teppan Edo has turned into one of those restaurants I feel I need to eat at every time we go to Disney.  We first tried it back in September with friends.  Then when my mom and I returned in January, I had it again.  I don't really know why we love it so much.  I mean there isn't anything super Disney-esque about it, but it is really, really good hibachi and the service/experience is always great.  See below for my review and pictures!

Overall Review

We arrived early, probably around 11:40, and you are to check in downstairs.  There is a check-in booth to the right of the large stair case leading to the restaurant.  The booth was not open yet, so we went into the gift shop and looked around.  We actually found some things we wanted to buy, but decided to purchase them that evening when we returned to the World Showcase for dinner.  After shopping, the booth was still closed, so I sat down underneath the stairs in the shade.  About 11:55, the booth opened, and I went to check us in.  We were given a pager, then made our way upstairs to the waiting area.  Just a side note, reservations are not really required here.  I always make them just in case, but there was a lady in front of us with a party of like 8 people that was able to be seated pretty quickly.

So one of the best parts about having the noon reservation is the welcome ceremony.  My video of this is below.  It is so unique and fun to watch.  There are two restaurants in this building (see my previous post about this).  The waits are never long here.  Usually they are just making sure they have enough people for your table.

Right at noon, our pager went off, as well as the pagers of our soon to be tablemates.  The hibachi tables seat 8 people.  So if your party is smaller than 8, you will likely be seating with strangers.  Usually this bothers me in a more family style setting, but here it does not.  We were escorted to our table and greeted quickly by our waitress.  They handed us our menus then asked to confirm if anyone was on the dining plan or had any special needs/allergies.  Then they took our drink order.  I ordered iced tea and Brad ordered a coke.

After returning with our drinks, they took our food order.  We just ordered our entrée.  I had chicken and shrimp while Brad just had chicken.  After they take your order and remove your menus, they give you a hot towel to clean your hands with.  That is really nice considering all the germs you encounter while at Disney World.  I mean we have our handy dandy hand sanitizer too, but this is also a nice touch that most restaurants do not do.  They also bring you a fork, and, if you want, they can "child proof" your chopsticks to make them easier to eat with.

If you order an appetizer, it is brought out almost immediately.  One of the couples at our table ordered a garden salad and assorted tempura.  About the time they finished their appetizer, the chef arrived ready to entertain us!  And cook our meals of course!  (They do not hold up the entire table for those that order an appetizer, in case you are curious.  They will start cooking when they are ready regardless if someone is still eating their appetizer.)

They start out by separating out your sauces.  There are three sauces: hot mustard style sauce, teriyaki style sauce, and the infamous, yum yum sauce.  I absolutely LOVE the yum yum sauce.  I love it so much I either ask for seconds or eat Brad's!  Next they do a little bit of artwork on the grill with their oil.  This trip she drew a Minnie Mouse.  This is always cute and neat.

Then they destroy their priceless art to start cooking up the veggies!  They do the stereotypical onion volcano/train combo.  Nothing out of the ordinary.

Then they start cooking the meats.  Our table was chicken, shrimp, and steak.  At this time, the cook will reconfirm your order and ask you how you prefer your steak cooked.  They start cooking the chicken first, then shrimp. After both are seared, they sit them to the side and mix the noodles in with the cooked veggies.  Around this time they will bring out your rice.  That is because as soon as the noodles are nice and mixed in with the veggies, the chef adds them to your plate.  At this point the chef really dives into the meats.  She started the steak and finished cooking the shrimp and chicken.  Once cooked, she will plate it for you.  Now we get to dig in!

Overall, this is one of my must do restaurants when we go to Disney.  Brad gets one pick and I get one pick as must dos.  Then we fit in whatever else we can.  The food is always so good, and the experience is so much fun.  While no birthdays were being celebrated this trip, they definitely do fun things if it is your birthday!  And you get a neat souvenir!  I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fun restaurant to try in the World Showcase.  But again, beware, if you do not like sitting with strangers, don't eat here!
