Hot Dogin Review

Hot Dogin Review

Hot Dogin is a somewhat new restaurant in Madison, AL.  I say somewhat new because it was originally opened as a food cart across the street.  They did have an open space inside of a building with seating and such, but you would order your food outside at the food cart.  We noticed that they finally opened a full service restaurant inside one of the shopping centers around town, so we decided to give it a try.

When you first walk in, you are hit with your typical hotdog toppings...ketchup and mustard.  So not literally, but the entire space is decorating in red and yellow.  It wouldn't work for most places, but I think it works really well for a hotdog place.

Their menu is pretty extensive.  They have sandwiches, salads, wraps, soups, and of course hotdogs.  The big thing they are missing is french fries.  Your combo comes with chips, like the small individual bags.  That is kind of a bummer.  We had a coupon for a $1 off a hotdog, so I got nachos instead of the bag of chips since I did not do a combo.

Brad ordered the "Coney Dog" without mustard and Cheetos.  It was pretty messy, which I partially expected with the chili, so he used a fork and knife through most of it.  He really enjoyed it, and I was really surprised.  He usually doesn't eat hotdogs with anything other than ketchup.

I ordered the "New York Dog" with nachos.

The hotdog was great!  For those that know what a "Stadium Dog" is from the University of Alabama football games, this tasted EXACTLY like it.  It is really hard to elaborate about the hotdogs, but they are really good and are made fresh to order.  I love sauerkraut but Brad hates it.  So I rarely get it.  The bun itself is really soft and tasted really fresh as well.

The nachos were just ok for me.  I would order them again, but I still would prefer french fries.  The chips were just your standard tortilla chips.  The cheese wasn't "plastic" cheese, which is what I prefer.  Brad said it tasted more like really melted cheese.  It was much better than just plain jane chips, but I prefer the plastic!

Overall, we would definitely go back.  There really aren't many hotdog places around here, so it is something different to have for dinner every now and then.  The cost is also really reasonable.  I believe we paid only around $12 for two hotdogs, two drinks, chips, and nachos.  Hopefully they will stick around...and get french fries!
