During our March 2023 trip, we spent our second day at the Disney parks (third day in Orlando) at Magic Kingdom that morning and Hollywood Studios that evening. We had a big, late breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table, so we didn’t do a real lunch. We decided to make a dinner reservation at Sci Fi Dine In Theater once we secured the plans for Magic Kingdom. Melody had never been there, and I hadn’t been there since our trip with friends in 2014
At my mom’s previous job, she would travel a lot for work. She would go to Pigeon Forge often, and one of her favorite places is The Chop House. So on our trip back last summer, we ate dinner there one evening.
When we went on our cruise back in April of 2022, we stayed the night before at Homewood Suites in Cape Canaveral. We arrived early enough that we decided to wait and eat nearby. Unfortunately a few places closed early that night, but we stumbled upon Gator’s Dockside.
During our trip to Pigeon Forge in May/June, we tried to enjoy a new restaurant each evening. We researched most places we went to before the trip. But on our last night, we did a bit of googling and came up with The Old Mill. It is a neat place with multiple eateries and shops. There are two dinner locations. We picked the restaurant vs the cafe.
While at Dollywood in May, we had lunch at Till and Harvest. A friend of mine had warned us of potential long lines the later you wait in the lunch hour to eat, so we arrived a little before 11. We were all a little queasy from rides, so we needed the food and the break. Not to my surprise, there was no line.
When we went to Dollywood earlier this summer, we stayed in Sevierville, TN in a beautiful cabin. I did some research into some restaurants in the Sevierville area for us to grab dinner at after our days at Dollywood. We really didn’t want to deal with the crowds in Pigeon Forge proper every night if we could avoid it. One of the places I read about was a placed called Aubrey’s Restaurant. So that was a place we kept in our back pocket for when we needed it.
So normally when we go to Nashville, we always stop at the American Girls store and The Cheesecake Factory. Well our trip back in January, we did go to AG, but we skipped TCF. We just got one here in Huntsville, so we decided to try something different. It was also a Friday night, so we figured it might be busy too. Near AG was a restaurant called Party Fowl. It didn’t look busy, so we decided to give it a try.
Almost every visit we have made to Opryland, Solario Cantina has been closed. Usually we go in the middle of the week, but with school, we now have to go on the weekends or during breaks. During our visit to Opryland in January, we finally had the chance to try it!
Our favorite brunch spot was Grille 29. We loved going there, and it was our go to spot for out of town guests. Unfortunately they did not survive COVID. I am not entirely sure COVID was the true cause of their closure. Rumor is they had issues with their landlord. But the closure happened during the pandemic, so it is hard to really know for sure why. But it was replaced with a restaurant named Grille on Main. While similar in name, it is a different owner and different foods. They do offer a brunch they we visited a while back. Check it out below.
So about a month or so ago, we happened to be near Wahlburgers and decided to give it a try. We have had it for a while locally, but we honestly are never near it to think about it. And to add some humor to this post, Brad was throughly confused by all of the Mark Wahlberg memorabilia until I explained his connection.
The last sit down restaurant we tried while in Pensacola back in February was Flounder’s Chowder House. It too was located across from our hotel and would be easy walking distance if it were not so cold! My mom had eaten here before, but it was new to me. It was dark when we arrived, so I couldn’t get any great pictures, but is really large and was even crowded on this night.
Back before we went under quarantine due to COVID-19, we were still attempting to try new restaurants and go on “dates” on Fridays that Brad was off since Melody had school on Fridays. Well one of the last new places we tried was Super Chix. While it is still in Huntsville, it is about a 20 minute drive to get there. While that isn’t so bad, it isn’t the best for carryout for us for that reason. We went at lunchtime on a Friday while it was still fairly new. We were skeptical doing this because we were not sure we would find a seat, but we went for it anyhow.
So back in February, I got the chance to try The Cardinal Drive In in Moulton, AL. My parents live near there, and I was visiting with my dad. While my parents have eaten there often, I have never been. It is similar to Sonic, but honestly, it was much better!
One of the restaurants we tried while in Pensacola in February was Red Fish Blue Fish. It was located directly across the street from our hotel, although we drove due to how cold it was. If it was warmer and lighter, they do offer a lot of play areas for kids which is nice if you are having to wait. Generally the restaurant seemed fairly big, but it was really hard to tell since there was no one there. I truly think we were one of two customers.
One of my favorites spots that we had dinner while in Pensacola in February was Crabs on the Beach. It was literally right next door to our hotel so we walked over (perfect when you have been in the car over 5 hours with a 3 year old!). It late and dark, but I saw a sign for a play area but we didn't get to see it. But I am sure that is great during the busier times when you are waiting to be seated. The atmosphere was nice and they offered both inside and outside seating which is great.
A while back we decided to give Earth and Stone Pizza a try. They opened one nearby, and we kept meaning to go there but just never made it. There is a lot of road construction near the one in Madison, so I feel like it takes a bit more effort. But we were glad we finally stopped by and tried it.
So way back in August, we went to the Rattlesnack Saloon in Tuscumbia, AL. My dad wanted to try it for his birthday, and we were in the midst of packing things up for our move. So the new restaurant was a nice break. It is about an hour or so from Huntsville.
When we went to Disney back in October, we stayed at Buena Vista Palace. BVP is located across the street from Disney Springs. Since we were there with my mom who was on a business trip, the location was ideal so that Melody and I could go grab food and shop easily. During our trip we ate at Wolfgang Puck Express twice. This used to be our go-to spot. But then Disney moved the buses on the other end. It wasn’t as convenient, and we started eating at Chicken Guy! more. So it was a nice treat to get the chance to eat here again. It was right near the walking bridge from the hotel. And the foods servings are usually plentiful.
While at Disney back in August, we had lunch at Pinocchio Village Haus at Magic Kingdom. We have eaten here on past trips too. It’s a great place to cool off, and if you time it right, it isn’t very busy at all. They have a variety of food for even the pickiest eaters too!
On our way to Disney back in August, we stopped at Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers in Orlando. It was about a 5-10 minute drive from Disney itself, and it is next to one of the outlet malls. We had time to kill until my mom could meet up with us, and this sounded really good based on reviews online.
