Melody's Two Month Schedule

Melody's Two Month Schedule

When Melody was around two month's old, we decided to let her attempt sleeping through the night.  My best friend had just started attempting it with her two month old, and we were basically having to wake Melody up for her 2 a.m. feeding.  Her schedule did not change at all from her one month schedule except we removed the 2 a.m. feeding.  When we first started this transition, Melody would start stirring between 2 and 3 a.m.  I would give her her pacifier and see if that would put her back to sleep.  If it did, I would also go back to sleep.  If it did not work, I would get up and give her a bottle.  It took about a week or two, but eventually she started just sleeping through that time frame altogether.  Now she will not start stirring until around 4:30 at earliest.  Below is the schedule:

Workday Schedule

  • 5:00 a.m. - Brad feeds and changes Melody, and then he puts her back to bed.  He gets ready and goes to work.  I sleep through this feeding.
  • 8:00 a.m. - I feed and change Melody.  This is the time that I put on her daytime clothes.  At this point, she will sleep about an hour at most.  During that hour, I will shower.  Prior to her sleeping, I watch the Today Show and maybe eat breakfast or snack.  Some days, my best friend and I will go walking after I feed her.  I will shower as soon as we get back before her next feeding.
  • 11:00 a.m. - I feed and change Melody.  I feed Melody first, change her, then lay her down for a nap.  When she is napping, I eat lunch and do one chore (see below).
  • 2:30 p.m. - I feed and change Melody.  After I change her, I will have Melody do some tummy time and play on her mat.  After about an hour, we will lay on the couch and cuddle.  Sometimes she will nap, other times she will just cuddle and relax.  This is when I sneak in a nap, if possible.  If we don't nap, I will prep dinner and start washing some bottles.
  • 5:30 p.m. - Brad is home, and he will feed Melody.  After her feeding, we will change her and put her in her pajamas.  We find this works best for her because she wakes up when we change her.  By doing this, she goes to sleep easier at her next feeding.  We cook and eat dinner during this time.  Melody either naps or we put her in a swing/bouncer.  At this time, we do clean up dinner and do one final cleaning of bottles and prep the next 24 hours worth of bottles.  We then try and get an hour of TV in.
  • 9:00 p.m. - Brad typically feeds and changes Melody.  Then we take turns reading her a book after her feeding.  One trick is that we change her diaper mid-feeding.  She usually starts to fall asleep as we burp her, so this helps her sleep better.  After her bedtime story, we put her to sleep in her rock and play.  Then we get ready for bed and go to sleep too.

Weekend Schedule

  • 5:00 a.m. - Brad feeds and changes Melody.  Then they both go back to sleep.  I sleep through this feeding.
  • 8:00 a.m. - I get up and feed and change Melody.  I then put Melody in her day time clothes and put her down for a nap.  Brad and I eat breakfast, then we try to get in a shower at this time.
  • 11:00 a.m. - One of us will feed and change Melody.  Melody will usually nap during this time, and we will eat lunch and relax.  We may run errands or do a chore as well.
  • 2:30 p.m. - One of us will feed and change Melody.  Since Melody rarely naps during this time, we try and get in tummy time.  We also try and prep dinner if necessary.
  • 5:30 p.m. - One of us will feed and change Melody.  Then we eat dinner while Melody naps.  We try to get in any TV at this time.  We also prep bottles for the next 24 hours and clean the bottles from the day.
  • 9:00 p.m. - Brad typically feeds and changes Melody.  Then we take turns reading her a book after her feeding.  One trick is that we change her mid-feeding.  She usually starts to fall asleep as we burp her, so this helps her sleep better.  After her bedtime story, we put her to sleep in her rock and play.  Then we get ready for bed and go to sleep too.

The weekends are a little more relaxed.  We still will stick to the feeding times, but we may go to sleep a little later or eat at different times.  We also may run errands and get out of the house some.
