Burp Clothes

Burp Clothes

I hear with every baby there is one thing you get a lot of.  For some people it is blankets and for others it could be bibs.  One thing we did NOT get a lot of was burp clothes.  I personally did not want to go pay a lot of money for something I knew Melody was going to just spit up all over.  Instead, I decided to make my own (well sort of).

Items Needed

  • Cloth Diapers
  • Ribbon
  • Matching Thread

Instructions

1. I opted to wash the diapers first

2. Line the ribbon up how you want it to be sewn onto the diaper.  I did various patters you can see below.

3. Pin the ribbon down to the diaper.  I decided against cutting the ribbon.  The first one I did, I cut the ribbon and thought I left enough "excess".  I was wrong and it was too short.  So with the rest, I opted to leave the ribbon dangling.  This can sometimes be a pain because the spool of ribbon gets in your way, but you will at least know you have enough!

4. Starting at beginning, sew a straight line down the ribbon until you get close to the end of the diaper

5. At this point, you will need to switch the direction of the diaper and sew again

6. Continue until you are back to the beginning of the ribbon

7. Remove the diaper from the sewing machine and cut the spool of ribbon off the end

8.  On the "open" end with the thread, pull the thread to the back of the diaper to knot

9. Repeat if you are doing more than one piece of ribbon as I did below

10. Be sure and clean up the lose ends where necessary and you're done!
