Hometown Memphis Couples Shower
A few weekends ago, I helped host a shower with some of Brad's family for one of his cousins who is getting married later this summer. They live in South Florida, but both his cousin and his fiancé are from Memphis. My mother in law came up with a "hometown" theme. Memphis is known for their BBQ, so that was a must. Then we decided to incorporate both Elvis and the Memphis skyline. The shower was a team effort. Below is the final product of that effort. I am going to do a few posts later about the crafts I did specifically though.
For the food table, we had hanging records and music notes that were ordered from Amazon. We had a used a red gingham tablecloth over a blue table skirt. My sister in law did all of the flowers. She used both yellow sunflowers and some red ones too. She did an amazing job on them. We had BBQ with slaw, baked beans, and chips. The food was served outside on my in law's back deck.
Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the drink table in complete form. However, the concept is below. Again, we used a blue table skirt, but a red and white polka dot tablecloth. On each end we had drink canisters with lemonade in each one. The napkin/utensil setup was in the middle in a basket. Then we had water on the table as well. My mother in law ordered skyline labels to put on the water bottles.
We had the gift table located outside. It filled up throughout the shower of course. We had a large variety of beer located in various coolers.
Also located outside was all of the seating. We invited almost 100 people, so inside wasn't an option for that many people. We had a table set up just for the couple. We also had cold water in bins. Each table had a white tablecloth with a blue gingham overlay. Then we had flowers on each table along with the special water bottles.
Inside we did have a couple of things. One of those things was the guestbook I made for them. More on that later!
Then the cake! Brad's cousin's aunt (from his dad's side of the family, not ours) is a baker. She did the cupcakes and cakes. The main cake was done with the skyline from the invitations and napkins. Then the cupcakes were various shades of blue and red. We displayed the invitation along with more flowers.
We gave the bride and groom aprons to wear. The bride's apron was bought from Marley Lilly, but I did not get a picture of it. We bought the groom's apron from William Sonoma, and I used my Silhouette Cameo to apply his name using black vinyl.
I must say, I thought the shower went great. We had about 75 people show up, and the bride and groom left with some great gifts. And Melody and I had time for a quick selfie too!
