Felt Christmas Tree

Felt Christmas Tree

I have been trying to do more crafts with Melody on the days we are at home and not involved in preschool or dance. One of the Christmas crafts I wanted to do was a felt tree. I liked this idea because she could move the ornaments around all season if she wanted since no glue is involved. She had a lot of fun making it and was super proud of the results!

Supplies

  • Large piece of green felt (I had a yard worth)

  • Various other colors of felt

  • Scissors

  • Decor for the ornaments (we used felt and stickers)

  • Yard stick

  • Pushpins

Instructions

1. Fold the green felt in half. Draw a line from the corner to the top. Cut. This will give you the basic tree shape if you open it up.

I continued and cut out the β€œlimbs” by folding in half, drawing them, and cutting them. All of this could also be done freehand, but I am not that confident, ha!

2. Now cut out the ornaments. I used a cup to have a better shaped circle, but this too can be freehand. I also cut out some different shapes to use as decor on the ornaments. I cut out a star for a topper too.

3. I set all the ornaments out and the decor, and I let Melody decorate each one.

4. Using the pushpins, place it on a wall within reach to your child. And let them decorate it with the ornaments!

5. All done! Melody was super excited for this tree! She wanted to keep posing in front of it.

Tips - You can add felt Christmas lights, felt presents, a felt brown trunk, or use ric rac for garland. You could also display this on cardboard or a foam board if you did not want to attach it to your wall.
