Yak and Yeti Food Cafe
When mom and I went to Disney in January, one of the new places we tried was Yak and Yeti Food Cafe. It is located in Animal Kingdom near Kali River Rapids. We rarely spend a whole lot of time in Animal Kingdom. Because of that, we rarely eat at any quick service or table service restaurants. And if we do, it is usually the same place...Pizzafari. Because we wanted to do Flight of Passage, we went on the time and day I could get a Fastpass for it. So we ended up being at Animal Kingdom for dinner. Yak and Yeti has always been a restaurant I wanted to try, but I wasn't sure we would have time for table service. So we opted for the quick service version. Check out my review below!
Due to the timing of our Fastpasses, we had a fairly early dinner. It was around 4:30 or so when we arrived at Yak and Yeti Food Cafe. Because of this, we didn't really encounter a line. I think there were two cashiers, and two people checking out when we walked up. Below is a picture of their menu.
I went knowing exactly what I wanted to try, the honey chicken. I am not a huge fan of beef or steak. I also didn't visit an Asian place to have a burger or hotdog. And in general salads do not agree with me. Knowing that we still had a few hours of park visiting to do, I didn't feel a salad was a good choice. Mom decided to get the same thing as me for similar reasons. We considered getting an egg roll, but neither of us are fans of pork. So two honey chickens it was! Oh, and two cokes.
After ordering our food, we received it within five minutes. As we headed towards the back where the seating was located, we ran across a condiment cart. There were plenty of condiments to pick from, and we tried a few different sauces with our rice.
Once we picked up all of our sauces, we headed to find a table. Finding a table was exceptionally easy considering how early it was. There were also so many tables throughout the area. It was much larger than it seems when you first walk up. We snagged a table by the fountain.
The honey chicken was fried chicken covered in honey sauce. It was really good especially considering it was quick service theme park food. There were a few pieces I passed on because they were way too big and a little chewy. I personally prefer the crunchy small pieces, but that isn't always possible. It also wasn't super hot. There were a few bites that were lukewarm for sure. I am not sure if this is intentionally how they serve it, or if it was just because of how long it may have been sitting out. Also included were a few snap peas and carrots. The snap peas were ok, but I prefer them raw. I don't like cooked carrots either, so I did not try any of those. There might have been two or three carrots though. It wasn't an overwhelming part of the dish. The last part was the white rice. It was really nothing special, but I used a lot of the different sauces I found and spruced it up. I prefer brown rice, but I like white rice too.
If you like Asian food, I would highly recommend this little cafe. It allows you to have a little bit different food than the traditional theme park food you find everywhere else. The prices are on par with any other quick service meals. And the menu does contain items that I think even the pickiest eaters will be able to order. It will be a tough choice on our next visit to Animal Kingdom on eating here or Restaurantosaurus. I am most positive it will be Yak and Yeti Food Cafe though!
