Birthday Party Food
The theme for Melody's second birthday was "You are my Sunshine". I contemplated the food to serve for quite a few months. I wanted to have food that I knew Melody would eat, but that isn't much these days. I also wanted to do something fancy and unique. However, since we were living in a hotel, we had to adapt.
I wanted something as a "main" item. I debated pizza, chicken nuggets, chicken salad, but I ended up deciding on Subway. It was something we could pick up early, and it would not need to be kept warm. And it was something different too. I had Brad pick up the sandwiches on his way to the party along with a few last minute items (ice, drinks, etc.). Brad bought 5 footlongs in a variety of combinations. He asked for all of the toppings in a bowl along with mayo and mustard packets. This allowed for everyone to dress their sandwich when they made their plates.
{so funny story. Brad and I had a difference of opinions when it came to the toppings. He didn't think they were necessary, but I did. Well on his way into the house, he was being chased by a wasp and dropped one of the bowls of vegetables. Talk about ironic. My mom luckily brought more along with 2 more footlongs.}
I used the leftover cupcake toppers to top the sandwiches to add a little decor.
I wanted to buy a cheeseball from Edgar's Bakery, but they were sold out. So I went to Publix and got a few cheese spreads from the bakery area. I served these along with crackers.
I was able to buy some cheese straws from Edgar's that were really good. I also served some chips with French onion dip because everyone loves that!
One of Brad's coworkers made us some popcorn that I served in small cups and spread throughout the food area.
The last thing on the food table were M&M's. I bought several bags from Easter and separated out the pink and yellow ones, ha!
We served all the desserts on a separate table along with the cupcakes. I bought Rice Krispies Treats from the store and decorated them with yellow candy chips.
I used those same candy chips and dipped chocolate chip cookies in them. Melody loves chocolate chip cookies!
And we can't forget the main event, the cupcakes. I was originally going to do a fancy cake, but I opted for the least expensive and easiest option. I bought white cupcakes from Publix, half chocolate and half white cake. I topped each one with cupcake toppers I made.
For drinks, I kept it simple and served water and cokes.
Melody ate very little of the food, but that was fully expected. But everyone else seemed to enjoy it.
