Backlot Express

While at Disney back in August, we visited Backlot Express for the first time in a long while. I am not a huge burger person, so I have typically avoided eating here. We don’t usually spend a lot of time at Hollywood Studios, and when we do, there are a lot of other places I would rather eat at (I am really selling this place to you, huh?).

So during our unexpected visit to Galaxy’s Edge, we ran into my mom and her coworker/friend. Well they were hungry, and that was the closest indoor place that offered a variety of food from where we were, so we sent them there. We continued to explore because we had a huge breakfast. Well we finally decided we need a break too, so we headed to meet with them for a bit. It was air conditioned and they have free drink refills. And since I wasn’t starving, I was willing to try it again.

We found them, and we decided to do mobile ordering due to the long lines. We ordered, and it was ready just minutes later. I highly recommend doing mobile order wherever available, when it works. We have ran into one instance of it not working, and two others where what we wanted (that was on the menu board) was not in the app.

For Melody, I ordered the macaroni and cheese with french fries, a cookie, and milk. I knew she would not eat any of the other entree options, and I would try the macaroni and cheese. So she had everything else and peanut butter crackers, ha. The french fries were ordinary Disney fries, and she liked them. The cookie was a prepackaged cookie, nothing fancy. But that is actually what my kid prefers. She didn’t have the macaroni and cheese, but I did. It was good. Better than Kraft, but not table service quality. It wasn’t an entree portion like I semi-expected, but it was plenty for a kid. And I ate it all since there was a slight mishap with my lunch…

Brad ordered the Angus Cheeseburger and a drink. While the drinks come with free refills, they do not come with your meal here. If you like the same drink as your partner and you are willing to share, that can also save you some money. It is also something to consider with kids meals here too. I hate ordering kids meals myself simply because of the small drink, but here you can have as much as you want. Anyhow, onto the burger. It was just a Disney burger. Nothing fancy. However, you can use the toppings bar which is a nice bonus if you like more than ketchup (that’s literally all Brad puts on his).

I ordered the Southwest Salad with a drink. I didn’t pay attention to the description and I solely ordered based on the pictures. The pictures showed chicken which I expected. But I didn’t get any. I questioned it, but it really wasn’t what I ordered. The salad itself was good, but I think it would have been better with chicken. It just wasn’t very filling. And for $9 I just expected more.

So would I go back? Possibly. I didn’t go back on a more recent trip we took in October. We had PizzeRizzo. I guess if I am with people who want a burger and want indoor seating, I would go back. I do like the air conditioner and unlimited refills, but the food just isn’t great. I feel like there are better places here to pick from.
