Halloween 2019

Halloween 2019

Halloween is quite different this year. One we are in a new house and new neighborhood. Two our best friends are also in a new house and new neighborhood. So trick or treating was different. We also had more and different spaces we could decorate. Three Melody really understood things more and was super excited. She picked her own costume and asked to go trick or treating every day of the entire month of October, ha!

Decorating

Instead of doing a post entirely devoted to Halloween decor, I decided to include it here. Outside we sort of went all out. I bought a few things on clearance last year which added to the look. We had a Charlie Brown inflatable pumpkin (which was Melody’s favorite).

We lined the driveway and sidewalk with glitter pumpkin stakes.

Our flowerbeds were covered with tombstones and skeleton pieces.

Our front door had pumpkins, spiders and a rat!

I kept our yard flag simple with a Mickey Fall one.

Oh, and Melody decorated our windows with some clings we had last year. We had the creepy, bloody side. Then we had the happy, pumpkin side.

Inside we had a mixture of Halloween/Fall Decor. Our dining room was all Halloween. I have a spider table runner that was topped with black wine glasses, pumpkins, candles, and a bloody rose.

Each place setting had a cute pumpkin too.

In the foyer, we had a table with a mixture of things. Melody is obsessed with a Haunted House globe that makes noise as you pass by.

We also had a wooden pumpkin, a β€œBOO” pumpkin that lights up, a fall picture frame, a ghost and black cat, and candy.

In our living room, we decorated the mantel with a pumpkin banner and pumpkins atop.

We had a scary vintage phone on a table along with a pumpkin full of candy.

We had other random decor scattered throughout that I have found throughout the years on clearance.

Pumpkin Carving

Brad wanted to attempt carving pumpkins this year with Melody. We didn’t make it to the Pumpkin Patch, so we went with Plan B and went to Publix. I took Melody and let her pick out a pumpkin. She of course picked the largest one, and she had to have the carving kit. She was so excited and thrilled. So much so she was disappointed we didn’t do it right away. Well her interest had peaked, haha. When it came time she barely participated, but Brad had fun. She did pick out the design and took pictures!

Costume

The moment I asked Melody what she wanted to be for Halloween she immediately said Elsa. And she hasn't changed her mind one time since then. We went back and forth on where to get her costume. In the end we opted for a costume from Walmart because it fit her best. They had her size and for a decent price. I loved our Trish Scully Snow White costume last year but when I showed it to Melody, she preferred the look of the one from Walmart/Target. So why spend more, ha. It also came with a cute headband and ring. I did attempt to braid her hair. I have never done a french braid before, but with youtube I managed, ha. You can see pictures at various events below of her.

Trunk or Treat

The church where Melody attends preschool had a trunk or treat the weekend before Halloween. It was rainy, so they moved it inside. We got there as soon as it started and it was crazy crowded. We went person to person and Melody got candy and had lots of fun. And she LOVED dressing up!

Preschool Trick or Treat

While Melody doesn’t go to school on Thursdays, she was still invited to trick or treat with her classmates. They usually go around the area and trick or treat during the day, but the rain once again pushed things indoors. They had various stations set up throughout the church and church members were nice enough to hand out candy to all of the kids. It was so sweet, and the kids had so much fun. And I there were 4 Elsas just in her class.

Publix Trick or Treat

We found out during my weekly trip to Publix on Wednesday that they were doing trick or treating at Publix on Halloween, so we decided to stop by when they first started before heading to Justin and Emily’s for the evening. It was a cute event, but not quite what I expected. They had 5 stations set up throughout Publix where the kids to could β€œplay” then get candy after playing. They also had a bag to hold your candy along with a coloring sheet. And they had a sign you could take a picture with (although a random Elsa kept popping in Melody’s picture…seriously, we don’t know this kid). It was a fun event, but only took about 10 minutes to do. I do think as the night went on and they got busier, it could take longer.

Neighborhood Trick or Treat

So we decided to trick or treat in Emily and Justin’s new neighborhood. We started around 5:45, and we found a lot of non-participating homes. But the eventually we found houses with their lights on, and the houses that did open their doors offered a LOT of candy. We finished up around 6:30-7 and the kids were done, haha. They kept asking to go to more houses, but they had given up on the walking part, and it was COLD. But they literally each had a bucket full of candy, and Melody has yet to stop talking about it all!
