Local Catch

Local Catch

One of the last places we ate while at the beach this summer was Local Catch. Brad and I actually tried to eat there earlier in our trip, but they had live music and it was really, really loud. So we opted to return later. It was fairly close to our hotel too which was really nice because we were able to ride the golf cart there.

We got there fairly early, so seating was not an issue at all. It was a Friday night, and even when we left it wasn't too bad. We were immediately greeted by our waitress who got our drinks. I opted for alcohol this evening and ordered the Little Pink Margarita. I debated between it and the Froze, but I really wanted a margarita. And it did not disappoint. It was too strong which can happen with margaritas at some places. And the sugar/salt rim was a really good addition.

And now for the food. We ordered Melody the kid’s popcorn shrimp with fries. I was ordering something different, and her shrimp was my backup in case I didn’t love mine. And the entire table could eat some too. The shrimp was really good. And while most popcorn shrimp is fairly small, these were not. They were a great size and we all loved them.

I ordered the shrimp and grits tacos with chips and pico. They sounded amazing, but they could be bad too. I was really nervous, but honestly, it was one of my favorite dishes the entire trip. All of the flavors worked wonderfully together. The shrimp never got soggy from the grill or sauces either. It wasn’t too spicy, but had enough spice to be tacos. And the tacos themselves were overflowing. I ate them like tacos, but enough fell out that I used my fork to finish them off. And the pico was good, but the chips were the winner of the two. They tasted homemade and they were good with or without the pico.

Brad ordered the fresh catch of the day. We are not 100% sure the type of fish because we had so much fish this trip, but he thinks it was amberjack. And he opted for it to be blackened. It came with grits and green beans as the vegetable of the day. The fish itself was really good and the sauce they topped it with gave it an added spice. I don’t recommend the blackened if you don’t like spicy though. The grits were delicious and much better than Goat Feathers. They were soft and cheesy and not too rich. The green beans were also good, but just an accompaniment. Nothing to go here specifically for.

We also had the Fried Oreos with Ice Cream, but they were devoured before the I remembered to take a picture, ha! They were really good too.

Overall we loved Local Catch. We wished we would have eaten there sooner so were could have visited twice this trip. It will definitely be a new regular spot on our Destin beach trips!
