First Night in Our New House
So as you have likely read, we have recently moved into a new house. I already told you about our last night in our old house, but now it is time to tell you about our first night in our new house. The first night we OWNED the house, we did not stay there. Instead we stayed with our friends Emily and Justin who recently moved too, and it happens to not be too far from our new house. Anyhow, we decided to do this because the previous owners had three dogs, and we knew we wanted to clean the carpet before moving any furniture. Plus we would need help which didn’t start arriving until the next day.
We did some cleaning, and we did some crying (things were not going well). We found lots of stains on the carpet we didn’t expect, and we found SO MUCH dog hair. I had my mom’s carpet cleaner and it kept dying there was so much hair. I had a breakdown. It was 8 pm. I was tired. It was a long, stressful day. I had a migraine. I called it quits. We literally just left. I talked to my dad trying to hold back tears. He knew I was upset. I really was getting concerned, and I was still a bit sad about leaving our other house. As my dad said, you need to hate the house you are leaving so you aren’t sad, ha. Well we LOVED our house. It was just too small. So here we are. Breakdown city.
The next day I called a professional carpet cleaning company per my dad’s suggestion. It was quite expensive, but they could do it the same day, and it would be dry within an hour or two. This was perfect. And we literally had over 1200 square feet of carpet. There was no way we could clean it all ourselves. So we pulled the trigger and paid them to do it. In the meantime, Brad’s mom and I cleaned the other areas of the house while Brad and his dad went to our storage unit and started getting our bedroom furniture so we could sleep there tonight. Although I was convinced the hair would get the best of me.
To my surprise, it smelled dramatically better, and most of the hair appeared to be gone. And according to Brad, the stains are dramatically better. I can still see them, and I wanted them all gone for the price we paid, but they are at least better. And once we put furniture down, you can’t see it quite as bad. So we stayed. We knew we had a room for the night at Emily and Justin’s if we needed it, but we had the beds and we had to stay there sometime.
We tried to keep the routine as close to the same as possible for Melody. So we brushed her teeth.
Did “ready, set, go” down our even longer hallway.
And we read her a bedtime story.
The actual first night was much better than the real first. We actually do love our house now. It was super overwhelming and bittersweet. And our routines are still very much the same.
