Rattlesnake Saloon
So way back in August, we went to the Rattlesnack Saloon in Tuscumbia, AL. My dad wanted to try it for his birthday, and we were in the midst of packing things up for our move. So the new restaurant was a nice break. It is about an hour or so from Huntsville.
We went for dinner, and we honestly were unsure of where we were going. I grew up in Tuscumbia, but this place is fairly new. It is LITERALLY in the middle of nowhere. We felt like we kept driving and driving, and it randomly appeared haha. Once we arrived, we found some parking. Since we didn’t know our way around, we took the transportation provided to the restaurant. It is literally just a truck and you sit in the truck bed. Almost like a hay ride without the hay. Once we arrived we realized the truck really wasn’t needed. It was a quick walk.
After 5 pm everyone is carded. It is a open bar/restaurant that serves alcohol. So much like a college bar, you get a big X on your hand if you don’t plan to drink. Next time I will tell them I plan to drink whether I do or not so I don’t have that big ole’ X on my hand, ha!
Seating is kind of interesting here. So the seating is first come first serve. Like they don’t take your name. You just have to wait and find a seat as soon as one becomes available. This was probably the one thing I wasn’t a fan of here. We luckily found a seat without issue, but we did have to ask a few people that were holding tables, and we eventually found a nice family that was leaving and gave us their table (and funny note, our waitress happened to be our old State Farm agent back when we lived in Tuscumbia). Small world! We also found a seat instead the bar as opposed to the outdoor seating. All the seating is covered, but there was a band and we wanted the quietness of the inside area.
So let’s talk about the food. The food was surprisingly amazing. I expected traditional bar food. I mean we were here for the experience not necessarily the stellar food. But we were happily surprised. For starters we got the chips and salsa and snake eyes & tails (aka deep fried jalapeños and green beans). The chips and salsa were ordinary, but still good and a fall back in case the other was bad.
The green beans were definitely the winner of all of the appetizers. Dipped in ranch made them all the better. They were perfectly crispy and the green beans were not soggy at all. The jalapeños were good, but definitely spicy. Unlike jalapeños poppers, you don’t have any cheese to offset the heat. But dipped in ranch, you were able to offset it some.
For dinner I ordered the fried prairie sandwich. It is just a fried chicken tender sandwich. The sandwich itself was really good. The tenders were large and juicy. It was so much it started falling apart near the end, but I managed to make it work! I also had onion rings that were really delicious. They were not overcooked and hard, but not gooey either. Dipped in ranch that were perfect.
We did explore the area after finishing dinner. The restaurant is built into the side of a cave. We went on top and took some pictures overlook the saloon before heading back to our car. There is also a gift shop and a lot of other areas to explore that we didn’t find time to look into on this trip.
If you are looking for something unique and fun, I highly recommend it. It is not just for adults. We took Melody and she enjoyed the music and atmosphere too. It was more bar-like than I expected, but if you go before 5, I don’t think you will encounter that. Oh and get there early for a better choice of seating!
