A big problem area in our playroom is the amount of toys Melody has and her inability to really find all the things. One of those things would be all of her American Girl doll clothes. She has a bitty baby, all of the WellieWishers, and a TrulyMe doll. With all those dolls comes a lot of clothes. And she rarely change their clothes because she has trouble finding all their outfits. And when she did find the outfit she was looking for, all the others were left in the floor. So I started researching ways to better store the clothes. Here is what I came up with!
Something we have struggled with in both of our homes is our lack of attic space. More specifically our lack of storage space. And while we actually have tons of attic space in our current house, it is not super or easily accessible. One space that was extremely accessible was a space off of Brad’s office. There was a lot of space, but it just wasn’t utilized very well. There were no floors, and it would get really, really hot in there. So after some talk with my dad, we decided to convert that space into a storage closet that has heating and cooling. It took us almost four months, but we now have a great space to store those things we do not want to get too cold or too hot.
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know I go to Publix weekly to check out their BOGOs. My back stock has been hard to store over the years. I usually just make it fit in the pantry and utilize the space at the top of my pantry for what won’t fit. But this makes finding stuff really hard. For sometime now, I have wanted to utilize our coat closet for some storage shelving. My original idea was to only use this for paper products, but I was able to get shelving tall enough to accommodate our food back stock too. I also blame The Home Edit for me finally doing this, ha.
I have a LOT of door hangers. I am most positive I have one for every holiday and season. I have so many, they have literally just been shoved wherever I can find a space for them. This creates two problems. One, I sometimes forget I even have a door hanger for a specific holiday or season. In that case, I either buy a new one or I never get use out of the one I have. Two, closets become super cluttered. I have even started putting outdoor door hangers on inside doors! Brad had a great idea. He thought we could just hang them on the wall of our garage. We bought nails a few months ago, and we finally implemented the door hanger storage solution a few weeks ago. See the before and after below. Oh, and those aren't even CLOSE to all of the door hangers I have. Those were just the ones outside in the garage. I have quite a few in the closets in our house I need to get!
