Travel Baby Formula
Brad and I travel a lot. We decided while I was pregnant that we would not let a baby slow us down. We are really trying to stick to that goal after having Melody. Of course some trips are not realistic and traveling is definitely not as easy as before, but we are doing pretty good. We have a baby that loves the car, so that definitely makes traveling easier. One thing we faced on our first big travel (it was 3 1/2 hour trip to Brad's parents' house) was making Melody's bottles. We now usually make all of her bottles for the day in advance, but that has not and will not always be the case. I decided to make use of some of our breast pump supplies and create my own travel baby formula containers. Check it out below!
I decided to use the bottles that I would pump in to as the actual container that would hold the formula. I put in enough formula to make one or two bottles. The bottles I have will hold enough formula for an 8 ounce bottle. The picture below is formula for a 4 ounce bottle.
I usually label the bottles with a dry erase marker if I am taking more than one or two. This is more for my sanity. One, it allows me to make sure I have enough for all the feedings I will be away for. Two, if someone else is responsible for her feeding, this allows them to better remember when to make the bottles!
So another issue I ran into was pouring the formula into the actual bottles. The opening for both bottles are the same size, so it would make a mess. One day as Brad and I were trying different funnels, it hit Brad to use the breast shield part from my breast pumping days! It was purely genius honestly.
The great thing about all of this is that all the parts are plastic. If you drop a part, it won't break. And the bottles seal really well making it harder for it to spill in your diaper bag. Lastly, it allows you to get use out of the breast pump parts that you are no longer using or you are sparingly using now that your baby is on formula!
