Apple Bar

Apple Bar

At Melody’s Snow White birthday party, I wanted a main focus when it came to the food. I wanted to go lighter this year, so I hoped to play off the theme of the party. I came up with doing a caramel apple bar for the party. It played off the “apple” portion of the theme, and it was relatively inexpensive and easy!

A big concern of mine was keeping the apples from browning. I tested leaving out different apple slices to see how quickly they would brown, and I found that the bagged apples from Publix lasted the longest, and those are also some of Melody’s favorite. I ended up only getting green apples because that is all Melody will eat. Even if you remove the peel, she won’t eat red ones. I know the color would play better with the theme, but green still made the most sense.

With the small number of people coming to the party, I decided to just do one “dip”. I did caramel dip since this seems to be the most common.

Now for the toppings. I went back and forth a lot on these. I ended up only picking 3 toppings. I went with M&Ms, crushed nuts, and white/milk chocolate chips. I had many more ideas for this, but again, I didn’t want to overdo it.

I really liked the idea. It was different and really nice since it was something Melody would actually eat. The apples were devoured along with the caramel dip. The toppings were barely touched it looked like, but I enjoyed them as did the kids. And it was a really cute centerpiece to the food table.
