Red Fish Blue Fish
One of the restaurants we tried while in Pensacola in February was Red Fish Blue Fish. It was located directly across the street from our hotel, although we drove due to how cold it was. If it was warmer and lighter, they do offer a lot of play areas for kids which is nice if you are having to wait. Generally the restaurant seemed fairly big, but it was really hard to tell since there was no one there. I truly think we were one of two customers.
As you can see below, this is the area we were sitting in. They have heaters but they were not really providing us any heat, so it was fairly cold. They had all the windows shut, but air did find its way through. The staff wasn’t super helpful, but they were still friendly. We had to ask for just about anything we needed instead of offering (aka straws, silverware, and napkins).
The food was pretty good. Mine was by far the best. I ordered the shrimp tacos. The salsa wasn’t stellar, but the tacos themselves were really good. The sauce they used to top them with was probably the best aspect of it. My mom got the fried shrimp yum bowl. I was really wanting it so we split both of our meals. Her shrimp and sauce itself was really good. The rice was really cold. My dad had the shrimp and grits. I didn’t try any of it, but I think he liked it ok. It wasn’t anything spectacular though.
The food was subpar at best as was the service. I think if it were the middle of the summer both would have been much better. I think the staff was ready to go home (we were there an hour before closing), and the only some of the food was made to order. I would give it a second chance if I find myself there during the busier times.
