Brad is 37!

On Sunday we celebrated Brad during 37! Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype of last year’s birthday at Disney, but the pandemic had other plans. (Ironically we were supposed to be at Disney World this week.). We celebrated at home with a lot of Brad’s favorite foods (that aren’t McDonald’s or Wendy’s). I think he had a great laid back, relaxing day of celebrating.

I tried to let Brad sleep in as much as possibly, but Melody was up and roaring at 6:45 am. And there is only so much you can do to keep a kid quiet, ha. After he got up, I served him a feast for breakfast. I wanted to somewhat imitate Garden Grill. I did make a few adjustments. Instead of potato barrels we had potato cakes, and instead of waffles we had French Toast. Otherwise it was a whole lot of food. We saved some for breakfast the few days to follow. And we even sang Happy Birthday!

After breakfast, we ran to Publix to get a few things including his cake and lunch. Then we returned so that he could open all of his gifts. His birthday craft was literally probably the hardest one yet, but it turned out cute.

After gifts we played Animal Crossing for a bit. Brad celebrated his birthday with the animals, then I set up a birthday party too in a coffee nook we created. We took a family picture. And yes, our 4 year old has her own account in Animal Crossing! She loves it. And while she can’t read, we help her out with that part, and she has mostly memorized what all the selections are.

Next up was lunch. Brad wanted sushi. Thankfully the sushi chef was working at Publix today so we could just order it there. Otherwise I had planned to call it in at on of our other favorite sushi restaurants and just get it to go. He doesn’t like cucumber so it is harder to find him a premade one at Publix, but they are really kind to fix a custom one if they are available.

We spent the afternoon being lazy and playing. We originally spent some time outside before the rain, then I literally fell asleep on the couch while Brad and Melody played his new video game.

I then ordered take out from Texas de Brazil. It is one of our go-to places when Brad is in charge, but we still aren’t totally comfortable eating out in public yet. We ended up ordering WAY too much food, but we just were not sure how much we really needed. And I also think they gave us way more than we ordered when it came to the meat! But Brad loved it, and again, it makes good leftovers!

Last thing was cake. Brad wanted an ice cream cake, and Melody wanted to do Little People theming. So I worked with Publix to design a cake that used primary colors and left me room for a topper. Then I ordered a birthday Little People set from Amazon, and it came to life! It also gave Melody a fun toy. She still loves Little People so much, and she loves celebrating her toys’ birthdays! I mean the table even sings!

Overall I think he had a great birthday (or at least I hope so!). Maybe next year we can somehow sneak in Disney!
