Grille on Main
Our favorite brunch spot was Grille 29. We loved going there, and it was our go to spot for out of town guests. Unfortunately they did not survive COVID. I am not entirely sure COVID was the true cause of their closure. Rumor is they had issues with their landlord. But the closure happened during the pandemic, so it is hard to really know for sure why. But it was replaced with a restaurant named Grille on Main. While similar in name, it is a different owner and different foods. They do offer a brunch they we visited a while back. Check it out below.
The inside is somewhat similar, but they did remove their large fish tank which was sad. It is now a mock fire place. I am certain it provided no heat. One weird thing was the music. The music being played was like hairband 80s style. And while I do enjoy the music itself, it did fit the upscale theming.
Below are the brunch and kids menus. You can also view these on their website for a clearer picture. They offer a variety of breakfast options with a handful of lunch options too. The kids menu only contained lunch/dinner options, but they may have had smaller plates of things such as pancakes or waffles, but we did not ask.
For a starter, we tried the skillet cinnamon roll. It was delicious. It could have been a bit warmer, but it still offered tons of icing which is my favorite part.
I had a ginger rita to drink. It was definitely not my favorite cocktail. I found I am not a huge fan of ginger, ha.
For Melody, we ordered the kid’s chicken tenders with fries. One of the things I loved about Grille 29 was their apple appetizer for the kids. That is were Melody found her love for apples. But a new restaurant, new items. The chicken was really good and seemed hand-breaded. The fries were also good.
Brad got the burger (ketchup only) with fries. He seemed to really enjoy it. He couldn’t find anything he loved from the breakfast side of the menu, so this was the next best thing.
I got the crab cake benedict. I had high hopes. It was my favorite dish from Grille 29 for brunch. But my expectations were too high. I am not saying I would not get it again, but it did not compare. It was good, but it was also lacking. And the potatoes were not good. They were fairly undercooked and too hard for my liking. I would ask to try their grits next time.
Overall it was a decent change, but I much would prefer the original Grille 29. I don’t see this becoming a spot for us, but we might go here on occasion. The price was not awful considering we had an appetizer and alcohol, but it was a might expensive mediocre brunch. I do hope to give it another go in a few months and see if things have changed though.
