Unexpectedly Homeschooling Week Ten

So this would have been Melody’s last week of school and her last week of dance before her recital this past weekend. Well we know the ending to that story, right? We actually get to go to her preschool this week and pick up her things since we unexpectedly stopped school. It will be through the carline and we won’t get to hug or see any of her classmates, but at least this does give us some closure. As far as her dance recital, it has been postponed until June. And she actually gets to go back to dance class next week! Yay! Anyhow, onto the week. We did school as usual, but Melody was not into getting dressed in her tutu and tights for dance, so we didn’t argue. Our biggest battle this week was learning to brush our teeth with fluoride toothpaste. Anything that involves change is a battle. But by the end of the week she wasn’t fighting us as much!

Unexpectedly Homeschooling Week Eight

So in the COVID-19 world, Alabama was released from our “stay at home orders” and now we are under “safer at home orders again”. Basically non-essential stores may open at lower capacities, but that does not include salons, massage parlors, etc. There are some other rules and changes, and you can find those online if you are truly interested. That all began on Friday, May 1. We don’t really plan to change much, if any, of our routine until we see how these next two weeks pan out.

Painted Chick

We did this craft before Easter, but I think it also can be a craft you can do anytime. It is another unique craft in that you don’t use a paint brush. And if your kid is a little older, they should be able to do it all without little help!

Unexpectedly Homeschool Week Seven

This week has been a really good week as far as school goes. Melody has actively participated, and we were also able to repurpose my old computer so that Melody can watch her videos on that without using mine. We accomplished a lot of crafts including some for Mother’s Day and a few “miss you” ones too. We took a break from dance on Thursday. I think Melody may be getting burned out doing it twice a week. So we may back down to the usual once a week and see if that helps her eagerness. Daddy was teacher one morning while I had a checkup at my doctor. We also had to rearrange things on Friday because we had to make an urgent trip to the local urgent care for Brad. A few stitches later and he is good. And we were able to finish the day up!

Homemade Bubbles

Melody’s obsession during this quarantine has been bubbles. And while we found a bubble machine through grocery pickup early on, we have been having trouble finding bubble solution. I mean we can find small bottles, but every time I order bubbles through grocery pickup, they are out of stock. Well we opted to figure out a way to make our own! We tried two recipes, and both have their pros and cons.

Unexpectedly Homeschooling Week Six

This week I am keeping it simple. We did school; we learned; we danced; we played; we crafted; we are still exhausted, ha! A few new things this week happened though. Melody did start riding her tricycle on her own for long stints. We did take a really long nap after this long, exhausting week.

Fingerprint Cross

So while we did this craft as an Easter craft, it can definitely be a craft you can do anytime of year. We plan to display this cross year around. Because of this, I did it on a canvas instead of regular paper. But this also can be done on regular paper too!

Painting with Easter Eggs

If you are like me, you now have tons of those plastic Easter eggs laying around this week. Well one thing you can do with them is have your kids paint with them! You can make this as simple or as elaborate as you want. I let Melody pick 4 paint colors. Then we took two eggs and separated them. Then she used the inside of each egg to paint.

Bunny Mask

The bunny mask is the last of my Easter specific crafts, I think. These last two weeks have been full of Easter and spring crafts. And there are definitely some more spring crafts to come, and even a fun after-Easter craft next week too! What is kind of neat about this craft is you can do this with a variety of animals too.

Unexpectedly Homeschooling Week Four

Every week, and nearly everyday, there is something new going on with the quarantine. This week we have found out that social distancing is going to continue at least through April 30. And we also now have a shelter in place order for Alabama. The shelter in place order doesn’t really change any of our habits. We are already only getting out for essentials or doing drive thru orders. So nothing huge for us personally. And we continue on with homeschooling and project completing!

Counting Carrots

Now that we are stuck home and schools are no longer open, we are constantly finding new crafts to do to help keep us busy. Right now I am focusing on Easter/Spring crafts. This is a super easy craft, and as long as you have some glue, construction paper and scissors you are good to go!

Unexpectedly Homeschooling Week Three

Well we just finished week two of our new normal, and we made some adjustments from the previous week schedule wise. I feel like this entire adventure will be a constantly changing routine for us. We found out some major news in regards to schools here in Alabama, and it hit me hard. I will share more on that later. First up is how we did this last week.

Unexpectedly Homeschool Week Two

So here we are in week two of what is a new experience for most of us. Last week started out great, and we all ended up exhausted! We are planning to adjust our schedules some (more on that below) to help keep us fro overdoing it and burning ourselves out. But overall we made a lot of crafts and a lot of progress on some home projects.

Silhouette Cameo Projects Part Four

It has been a while since I have posted all of my new Silhouette Cameo projects. Over the last year, I have made a lot of shirts, some onesies, and a lot more things. Below are some of the things I have made that I haven’t already posted about within all of my other blog posts!

How to Remove a Chocolate Milk Stain

Being a mom, you find a lot of stains on clothes. We encountered a new stain this year…chocolate milk. So this may seem common to most, but Melody hates chocolate milk, ha. Well one day she came home from school with it all over her shirt. And adorable Cinderella shirt. I forgot about said stain, and I washed it. I even dried it. Ugh. But I did some work, and I managed to remove it.

Valentine's Day Exchange Idea

So at Melody’s preschool, we send in a small Valentine for each of the kids. I wanted to send in something other than candy and something not store-bought. I decided to send in some sort of “party favor” with a cute note. I opted for small rubber ducks. I mean what kid doesn’t love a rubber ducky for the bathtub!

Mani-Pedi Day

Last week my mom suggested we have a mani-pedi day. Melody loves getting her nails done at home and saw my mom getting a pedicure and was intrigued. My mom was off work, so we decided to go one morning. Melody seemed to really love it except when they “separated” her toes. She has a toe on each foot that is sort of twisted/curly. We have seen a doctor about this, and he thinks it is just fine since she doesn’t really hurt from it. I think it is just uncomfortable for her when someone is physically separating them. Anyhow, she loved it, and she said she can’t wait to do it again. And how adorable does she look?? I mean they even massaged her little leg and feet, ha!

Dance Fall 2019

We started Melody’s second year of dance back in September. It is still the thing she looks forward to the most every week, sometimes every day. She is constantly asking to go to dance. We have a new teacher and new dancers and dance moms too. It is a bit more chaotic, but I suspect it is just a glimpse of her future in dance, ha! Check out some of my favorite pictures so far from dance!
